In 2010, while excavating the Sanctuary of Diana Umbronensis, we discovered that the temple was not the only significant find on Scoglietto Hill in Alberese. Expanding the excavation area revealed another cult structure within a month, accompanied by an array of votive objects. As we delved deeper, a small statue began to surface from a niche carved into a trapezoidal exedra.
Research led by Mario Cygielman later suggested that the statue might represent Isis, identified by the distinctive knot on her garment. Another theory posits that the statue could depict a muse.
Between 2015 and 2016, this statue, along with numerous other artifacts, was featured in an exhibition on the Alberese excavations at the Archaeological Museum of Grosseto. Today, more than ever, we hope these treasures can once again captivate tourists eager to explore the sanctuary’s rich history.
