A new review of the volume Archaeological Landscapes of Roman Etruria was recently published in the Journal of Etruscan and Italic Studies.

It reads:

“… This edited volume represents an excellent, much-needed introduction to recent archaeological work in Etruria during the Roman period, a phase of the region’s history that has drawn less recent attention than earlier ones. The book aims to investigate Etruria over the longue durée and at various geographical scales to highlight aspects of economic and social history through an informed reading of archaeological landscapes…

… The collection as a whole will provide an essential resource for scholars interested in Roman Etruria, especially as it presents so much new and ongoing archaeological work in English, often for the first time. The abundant and diverse data, spanning survey, site-based archaeology, legacy data, and environmental information, bridges various research agendas and traditions to show the sort of collective effort currently energizing the study of the region …

… The editors are to be congratulated for producing what should be a key reference for those interested in pursuing these themes and accessing the increasing evidence available for understanding the development of the human landscape of Etruria in the Roman period.”
